Miles for Mental Health: Newmor’s Charity Challenges 2025

Over the past year at Newmor, we’ve made a real effort to give something back to our all-important community; a community that’s supported us as a family-run business in Welshpool since 1967. This years charity fundraising efforts have been directed at Ponthafren; a local Powys charity offering services to members of our community who experience mental health issues, those who may be socially isolated or excluded, or those who may wish to make new friends or gain new skills. They provide a caring environment, offering support to those in need and to promote positive mental health and well-being for all. Ponthafren’s vital services include a counselling service and one-to-one recovery project, free cognitive behavioural therapy, a 24hr mental health support line, and several life skills courses for community members from all walks of life.

This cause is very dear to us. Members of the Newmor team have used Ponthafren’s services in the past, and we supported Ponthafren during last year’s hiking challenge, and we’re proud to do so again in 2025. As a Welshpool-based business, we believe in investing in our local community. By choosing Ponthafren, we aim to make a meaningful difference close to home.

The Newmor team took on two challenges to raise important funds for Ponthafren this summer: the first was a hiking challenge on Lake Vrynwy; a natural beauty we’re so lucky to have on our doorstep. This challenge was open to all abilities. Twenty-one team members and two of our four legged friends completed the 20k walk around the stunning lake on a super sunny day in May! It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with each other and the great outdoors, as well as a great way to raise funds for Ponthafren.

Our second event was the highly challenging Welsh Three Peaks hike, where a dedicated group of six of our bravest team members climbed and ascended Snowdon, Cadair Idris, and Pen y Fan, all within twenty-four hours! Robbie Williams, our Compliance Manager, who organised and completed the challenge, said, ‘Welsh Three Peaks, one scorching day, and a brutal test on the body and mind. There were definitely some dark moments that nearly broke us. But we kept each other going with jokes, moans, and motivation. Abi led the way with ease! We took on this challenge for Ponthafren, to raise awareness for mental health and the power of community.

We were able to raise just under £2000 so far from our two challenges. If you’d like us to hit the 2000 mark, our donation page will be open until the end of the month for final contributions: https://www.peoplesfundraising.com/fundraising/newmor-challenges-for-ponthafren

The impact went far beyond the total raised; these events also built real camaraderie and purpose within our team. We also redecorated two one-on-one counselling rooms and the gym space at Ponthafren using donated Newmor wallcoverings, including bespoke prints designed especially for these spaces. The goal was to make these important rooms feel warmer, calmer, and more supportive for those who use them.

We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved together this year. It’s not just about the miles walked or the funds raised, but the sense of purpose and connection it’s brought to our team and our community. Thank you to everyone who participated, donated, or cheered us on. We’re committed to continuing this journey with Ponthafren and look forward to finding new ways to give back in the future!
