Sustainability
- Newmor Wallcoverings has implemented the following internationally recognised integrated management systems to support our environmental performance and sustainability objectives: ISO 9001:2015 Quality, ISO 14001:2015 Environmental & ISO 45001:2018 Occupational, Health & Safety. All 3 standards are 3rd party audited by BSI (British Standards Institution) ensuring a high standard of commitment towards Sustainability.
- We are a member of Sedex (Supplier Ethical Data Exchange), and periodically 3rd party audited to SMETA (Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit) which is an ethical audit methodology that encompasses all aspects of responsible business practice. SMETA is the most widely used social audit in the world.
- Our onsite solvent distiller has reduced our carbon footprint as a vast quantity of our solvent waste is recycled onsite and reused.
- We hold energy performance certificates for all Newmor Wallcoverings buildings.
- We are certified under FSC (Forest Stewardship Council), and PEFC (Program for Endorsement of Forest Certification), and adhere to FSC Core Labour Requirements, and to PEFC requirements for adherence to ILO (International Labour Organisation) labour standards. Both standards are 3rd party audited soil association.
- We fully comply with our legal and ethical obligation as an ‘Operator’ under UKTR (UK Timber Regulations) and will only procure timber and timber related products which have been legally harvested from well-managed, sustainable sources.
- We are constantly reviewing our products materiality and striving to incorporate more recycled content. All new products launched in 2024 use a minimum 20% recycled contents.
- We pride ourselves on economic prosperity as a business which provides jobs and a better standard of living which then has the knock-on effect globally for our suppliers and distributors.
Our Objectives
Our objective is to minimise any impact on the environment through:
- Preventing pollution, reducing waste, and ensuring that measures are implemented to protect and preserve natural habitats.
- Considering the effects that our operations may have on local society.
- Promoting environmental consciousness among our suppliers, contractors and partners through implementation of operational procedures and a supplier code of conduct.
- Seeking to work in partnership with the community by behaving in a considerate and socially responsible manner.
- Ensuring effective and expedient incident control, investigation and reporting.
- Committing to the usage of raw materials from sustainable sources where possible.
- Using recycled materials and fully recycling waste, therefore reducing the amount of waste going to landfill.
- Sourcing materials from suppliers with similar levels of environmental commitment.
- Conserving valuable resources such as water and energy.
Raw Materials and Supply Chain
- We ensure that all raw materials used in the manufacturing of our wallcoverings comply with all relevant industry regulations and will not be classified as high concern under the developing REACH programme concerning chemicals.
- Our wallcoverings do not contain any formaldehyde or heavy metals such as lead, cadmium or mercury.
- Our initiatives to reduce VOC’s also includes 3rd party emissions testing and accreditation by BRE to the French Arrêté scheme.
- We have 13 HPDs (Health Product Declarations). The HPDs cover woven backed and non-woven backed products in all weights. Newmor is an affiliated member, listed on the official Health Product Declaration Collaborative (hpd-collaborative.org) website.
- We are constantly reviewing our products materiality and striving to incorporate more recycled content. All new products launched in 2024 use a minimum 20% recycled contents.
- We are working towards more environmentally friendly packaging by using materials which are recyclable or include higher level of recycled contents
Resource Consumption
- As part of ISO 14001:2015 environmental system we monitor and measure our utilities and waste generated in operations and carry out an environmental performance evaluation for scope 1 & 2 of the GHG Protocol with a continuous investment in processes and technologies to make reductions, such as the recent investment in Canon Colorado printer, which results in:
- 40% less ink for the same image quality and colour intensity.
- Reduced energy usage because of the low-heat, energy-efficient LED curing system.
- Instant-on operation reduces standby energy use.
- UVgel technology supports environmentally friendly materials such as PVC-free and paper-based media, even uncoated.
- Ink, printer and printheads were all developed in concert, for providing maximum synergy and quality.
- No dedicated exhaust extraction needed.
- Negligible volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions from the UVgel inks.
