Introducing Athenaeum: Our New Academia-Inspired Digital Wallcovering Collection

Alongside our three new stocked collections this autumn, we are delighted to introduce Athenaeum, a suite of six digitally printed wallcovering designs that celebrate knowledge, craftsmanship, and creativity. Named after the meeting places of scholars and thinkers, this eclectic new collection pays homage to historic spaces of learning and the exchange of ideas.

Utilising Newmor’s latest investment in digital white print technology, Athenaeum exemplifies the brand’s ability to merge heritage-inspired design with cutting-edge innovation. The result is a refined series of designs that explore layered metallics, intricate textures, and extraordinary depth and detail.

Biblioteca

Meaning “library” in several languages, Biblioteca features a textured mylar base. Celebrating academia, the rich leather tones and metallic highlights of the book spines, paired with the moody shelving backdrop, create a realistic yet sumptuous aesthetic. This enveloping design brings drama and opulence to any interior.

Entomology

A word used to describe the study of insects; Entomology has a vintage aesthetic featuring a parchment-like background with a delicate champagne shimmer across an array of arthropods. The metallic glimmer captures the iridescence often seen in the insect world, lending the design a luxurious lustre. A deep green background reinforces its heritage feel and connection to nature.

Plumarius

Meaning “embroidery” in Latin, and also the name of several plant species, Plumarius depicts a mid-scale leaf pattern formed from delicately detailed, twinkling stitches. Metallic leaves shimmer against a matte background, and the soft neutral palette exudes refined luxury, complementing both traditional and contemporary spaces.

Maris

Meaning “of the sea,” Maris is a dynamic design that captures the synchronised energy of shoals of fish moving together as one. Textured scales and individual metallic blue and gold highlights catch the light, forming a dynamic and dramatic underwater seascape.

 Artemis

Named after the Greek god of the hunt, Artemis showcases bold, strong birds in a mesmerising dance of flight, enhanced by a mottled metallic texture of copper and gold. Full of movement and atmosphere, this design works beautifully as a mural or extended onto ceilings, creating a sense of escapism and connection to the natural world.

Chesterfield

The Chesterfield sofa originated in 18th-century Britain, with its creation attributed to the Earl of Chesterfield. Featuring the now iconic button detailing and leather finishes, the style became associated with luxury and sophistication in high society and has remained a design classic ever since. Printed onto our leather emboss, this design has a timeless tactile quality and realistic 3D effect.

The Athenaeum designs reflect Newmor’s creative versatility and respond to the growing move towards greater customisation within the hospitality, leisure, and workplace sectors. Rose Campbell, Head of Design and Marketing explains, “Athenaeum is inspired by our Dark Decadence trend. Each of the six designs incorporate refined textures, layered metallics, and exceptional detailing. We’ve injected a sense of curiosity and discovery as our new digital technology allows us to use paired back mylar accents to add a sense of modern decadence and luxury”
