Ibis Styles Barnsley
Barnsley, the home of industry, welcomes another development in the shape of the redesigned Ibis Styles. In the heart of a town most often famed for its extensive mining, Ibis Styles Barnsley also draws inspiration from the lesser-known glass trade. Rustic metals and delicate rainbows of glasswork were the inspiration for the bespoke wallcoverings we supplied for the common areas and bedrooms.
Back to Case StudiesThe inspiration
Just north of Sheffield, Barnsley has every right to consider itself part of the grafting backbone of the UK. Coal wasn’t the area’s only export; Barnsley’s flag depicts a proud glassblower standing next to a miner. These days the glass industry is not as large as it once was, but it lives on in this hotel.
The design
Industrially styled metal frames, glass jar walls, exposed piping, weathered surfaces and historical black and white imagery feature throughout. The guest rooms are a contemporary take on the theme… brilliant purple, orange and red glass jar lamp wallcoverings take centre stage.
Our wallcoverings
Our design studio worked alongside the designer to develop mining and glassblowing inspired wallcoverings for the lobby and common areas. We also supplied bespoke wallcoverings for the bedrooms – all based on the rich industrial history of the area.
