COO, is the first ‘sociatel’ in Singapore connecting travellers and locals via digital media, a boutique hostel with a casual bistro and a unique communal experience. Conceived with millennials in mind, the brand specialises in creating a societal experience for guests by connecting like-minded visitors through a digital interest matching tool.

Newmor has supplied bespoke site-specific wallcoverings for the common areas of COO which consisted of punchy graphic prints, art deco architecture, abstract maps of the neighbourhood as well as informative graphics which tell the story of Tiong Bahru.

In the four-storey building, COO created a strong essence of local heritage which we can see throughout its interiors. Metal mesh at the entrance inspired by the metal gates of old local housing. “It was imperative that the design of COO pays homage to the strong essence of the local heritage of its location. We wanted every part of the experience to be able to tell a story of the neighbourhood we are in, but in a playful way that reflects COO’s DNA,” says Colin Seah, founder of Ministry of Design.
